🥇Portable Gas Generators (suitcase/silenced) – We found the best deals online today

honda quiet generator

Its highly advantageous to also have a a silenced suitcase portable generator for survival scenarios. These generators are truly “Portable”. They are also extremely useful for recreation and camping. These suitcase style generators are as quiet as possible although they are not completely silent.  Relative to normal full size gas generators they are significantly quieter and much lighter.

The down side is they don’t run for as long and don’t generate as much power. Another advantage to these portable generators is that they are also inverters. That means they output a consistent amount of power that is safe to use on almost all devices. Due to their enclosed design and having built in inverters and being lightweight they tend to be more expensive than normal portable gas generators.

The thing we like the most about these suitcase style generators is that they offer enough power for essential things like heaters and some can power a refrigerator without being too loud to use. You can literally use them and no-one will know where your camp is. Since they are small and lightweight they are easy to move around. Having one in addition to a larger gas generators that we discussed in the “Gas Generators” post would be a great for your bug out kit.

They can also be used for fun camping outings with the family. Overall, your power generation and heating shouldn’t rely entirely entirely on gas generators, but they are good to have in addition to solar/wind generators and wood burning options. Keep in mind that gas generators shouldn’t ever be used indoors due to the carbon monoxide hazard.

Most of these generators are light enough for one person to carry and don’t require two people to lift onto a pickup truck or car trunk. Suitcase generators offer an enclosed design which is used to dampen their sound. On the downside due to their enclosure they are more difficult to repair.

#1 WINNER
Briggs & Stratton 30675A

Pros: Huge power output. Noise reduction.

Cons: Pricey.  Quite large and heavy for a portable/suitcase style generator. Not CARB compliant (Cannot be used in California).

Coming in at 128 lbs this is a heavy portable/suitcase style enclosed generator. We included it as our pick for #1 Winner because of its excellent high output capability. For its size and weight it really out does any of the other non-suitcase style generators and it isn’t very loud.  It performs really well and outputs a solid and stable 5000 watts. It has a 5 gallon gasoline tank. What we really love is that it can run for 14 hours @25% load which is as good or better than many larger and louder non suitcase type generators.  Its quite pricey but totally worth it since you are getting a lot of power out of a a fully-enlcosed noise reducing package . Its also 45 % more compact and significantly lighter than its normal generator counter parts. Its not quite light enough for one person to lift but it does come with wheels. It also has a built in inverter to safely power your electronic devices. What we really like about this generator is that it has enough power to run backup power for your home and it is compact enough for transport and bugging out.

 #2 WINNER
Champion 3400 Dual Fuel

Pros
: Dual fuel capable (gas or propane). Quiet. Electric Start. Parallel ready. CARB compliant (Can be used in California)

Cons: No remote start. Relatively heavy.

We absolutely love the Champion 34oo Dual Fuel.  It runs on propane or gasoline and outputs a generous 3100 running watts. It has an impressive run time of 14.5 hours at 25% on a 20-pound propane tank. this is a great portable generate for long term emergencies because stores of propane do not need any special attention to keep from spoiling. This generator though still being powerful enough to power home appliances is easy to transport. It comes in at a reasonable 100 lbs. It runs quieter than a dishwasher so you can use it at normal and remote campsites without drawing too much attention to yourself.  This generator is a perfect match for RV’s and has a socket for the RV to plugin. It also boasts an inverter for clean energy output that can power all of your sensitive electronic devices. The 3400 conveniently has an electric start. A great benefit is that it is parallel ready and you can couple it to another Champion 3400 for double the power. Its our #2 Winner because its less powerful than the Briggs & Stratton.

#3 WINNER
Honda EU2000I Companion Version

Pros
: Lightweight. Quiet. CARB compliant (Can be used in California). Reliable. Two-tiered noise reduction. Parallel capable.

Cons: Expensive. Not as powerful as other portable generators.  Lacks wheels.

When it comes to reliability and build quality this Honda Generator comes out on top. Its the kind of machine that you can depend on and it will run every time you start it. It has a modest power output which may not be enough for your needs. Its purpose is mainly to power some appliances and household lights and since its an inverter it can power your devices safely. Its not designed to be able to power your whole house or a large appliance at the same time as devices for a long period of time. If you want to be able to power your whole house lights and some appliances a larger external tank can be added. It outputs around 2000 watts at full load and at full load it can only run for about 4 hours. At 25% load in can run for a decent 9 hours. We like how easy it is to change oil on this generator. Its noise reduction design is formidable and it is ideal for camping grounds that require noise levels to be kept low and it is also ideal for camping where you don’t want people to know your location in survival scenarios.  The Honda EU2000IC can also be connected in parallel to another generator for double the power. You can connect this generator to a regular EU2000I (non companion version) to generate 4000 watts. For its weight and size the power output is very good for this generator. Its standard tank is 1.1 gallons but as mentioned before a larger tank can be added.  At 45 lbs its incredibly light and easy to transport, although it lacks wheels. Its our #3 Winner because its not as powerful as the other winners and is very expensive.

Briggs & Stratton 30545 Powersmart

Pros:  Parallel capable. Quiet.

Cons: Not CARB compliant (Cannot be used in California). Quite heavy.

The Briggs & Stratton PowerSeries generator is a phenomenal machine. It outputs a clean 2600 Watts which can power an RV A/C unit and your digital appliances (includes an inverter). If thats not enough power for you you can connect two units together.  Its easy to transport and has wheels and a comfortable handle. The most impressive feature of this model is that it automatically adjusts its engine speed to reduce noise, emissions, and fuel consumption. Its 1.5 gallon fuel tank can run the machine for an impressive 10 hours at 25% load. The generator weights about 84 lbs which makes it a bit of a challenge to lift into a truck or car (can be a two person job) but the convenient wheels and handle make it easy to move when its on the ground. This is a great overall portable generator that can be used to power the whole home when used in tandem with another unit. Unfortunately there is no electric start but but it usually starts on the first pull manually. It also runs quiet for its size at 59 dB. Overall we really like this generator. Its our #1 Winner because its quiet and parallel capable and a great value.

#2 WINNER
Yamaha EF2000ISV2

Pros: CARB compliant (Can be used in California). Smart Throttle. Quiet. Durable and reliable. Parallel capable.

Cons: Manual recoil start. Runs only on gasoline. Easy to tip-over during transport.

Yamaha generators are known for their impressive durability and reliability and this model is no different. It runs for an impressive 10.5 hours at 25% load on a 1.1 gallon fuel tank. Its very quiet at full load and is ideal for camp grounds and for stealth in remote camping scenarios. It weights 44 lbs making it a breeze for one person to lift and transport although it lacks wheels. This a truly compact, lightweight, and easy generator to use. It has a running 1600 Watts which isn’t ideal for powering a whole house but this is not what this generator was made for (it can still power a refrigerator). You can run two units in parallel if you require more power for household appliances. It has an inverter to safely power all of your electronic devices. It has an impressive throttle control mechanism which optimizes its fuel efficiency and quietness.  It features an auto warmup system for cold weather as well as auto-decompression for easy starts. The Yamaha is our #2 Winner because its a bit pricey for the power output.

#3 WINNER
Champion 3100

Pros: Ultra-quiet. CARB compliant (Can be used in California)

Cons: Average run time. Quite heavy.

This is quite an impressive and cost-effective generator.  Its super quiet at 58 dB and this means you can use it in a survival situation but also for camping where you won’t bother your neighbours.  It runs for about 8 hours on a full tank at 25% load on a 1.6 gallon tank which we found a bit disappointing. Its packed with features like cold start technology and Smart Economy Mode  for efficiency and noise reduction. In the power department its no slouch with an output of 2800 running watts. This is a perfect generator for RV’s and camping and can even power some of your household appliances. It outputs clean inverter power for your electronic devices. At 95 lbs its a two person job to load into a truck or car but it comes with wheels for easy moving on the ground. This is a great overall generator. Its our #3 Winner because its quite heavy.

Honda Super Quiet 1000 W

Pros: Very Lightweight and Compact. Very quiet. Efficient. CARB compliant (Can be used in California). Parallel capable.

Cons: Doesn’t produce that much power.

The Honda Super Quiet is a fantastic machine. Its very fuel efficient and able to run up to 9 hours on just 0.6 gallons of gasoline at 25% power output. Its also one of the quietest generators you can buy. For this reason along with its price its our #1 Winner in the Best on a Budget segment. It weighs less than 29 lbs which makes it extremely portable and easy to move around.  It features an inverter for stable clean power for all your sensitive electronic devices. Being a Honda it is very reliable and dependable. Its a bit on the expensive side but its well worth it for what you get from it. Its running watts are 900 Watts so you can’t power your whole home or major appliances but this is hardly what it is built for. You can also connect to units in Parallel if you want to run a major appliance like a refrigerator or A/C unit. The generator also comes with Eco-throttle and it will automatically adjust its throttle to maximize fuel efficiency and noise levels. A fantastic truly portable generator!

#2 WINNER
Briggs & Stratton 30651 P2200

Pros: Quiet and Efficient. Great value for the money. Parallel capable.

Cons: Not CARB compliant (Cannot be used in California). No electric start.

The Briggs & Stratton 30651 is a fantastic portable generator. You really get a lot of bang for the buck on this machine. Its such a great deal that its our choice for #2 Winner. It may have made it to our #1 Winner spot if it were CARB Compliant and a bit lighter. It produces 1700 running watts and can run for 8 hours at 25% load on a 1 gallon tank. Its quieter than normal conversation volume at 59 dB. It comes with a parallel port so if you want more power you can connect two units together. At 54.6 lbs it is very portable though not as light as the Honda Super Quiet 1000W above. It has built in inverter technology to safely power all of your sensitive electronic devices.  This really is a breeze to transport, setup, and use.  Its power output is moderate and you’re not going to be able to run a microwave or refrigerator but you can connect two units together for that purpose.  Its truly built for quietness and portability. We really like the affordability of this generator. Its a lot of bang for your buck. On the downside this generator doesn’t comply with CARB and cannot be purchased in California.

WEN 56200i Super Quiet

Pros: CARB compliant (Can be used in California). Great price. Super Quiet.

Cons: Slightly difficult to refill oil. Does not ship with oil.

We really like this generator. Its gives you so much value for the money. Its super quiet and produces 1600 running Watts. Its no slouch for its size. It has inverter technology to safely power your electronic devices. Its CARB compliant and can be used in California. Its quieter than a window a/c unit at 51 decibels at quarter load.  It features eco-mode which automatically adjusts fuel consumption for efficiency. At 48 lbs it is easy for one person to carry. It is truly portable. Its perfect for tailgating, camping, and survival scenarios. Its our pick for #3 Winner because there are some issues with the design of the oil container. It can run for approximately 6 hours on a 50% load which is quite impressive. Its not designed as a backup generator for the whole home but two units can be connected parallel to one another if you require more power for larger appliances. Theres really not much else to say when it comes to cons, this is a fantastic generator overall!

FINAL THOUGHTS

The Suitcase style portable generators are truly portable. Although they call regular portable gas generators portable they are generally very heavy especially when it comes to higher output models. If you have a normal portable generator is can’t hurt to have one of these suitcase generators as well. In a survival situation where you don’t want your location to be known the quiet models really come in handy. Owning one will give you more peace of mind than just having a heavy and loud portable generator or a standby generator for your house.
