🥇Best Crossbows – From Budget to Best – We found the lowest prices

crossbow

Crossbows can be very useful in survival situations for a number of reasons. They give you the ability to hunt game for food and also can be use for self defence.  Being able to reuse the bolts means you’re not dependent on ammunition. Though you have to use a certain kind of bolt if you want to be able to easily remove it and reuse it.  Some of the great advantages of crossbows is that they are nearly silent and much easier to use than a regular bow and arrow. It still takes time and practice to be able to shoot a crossbow perfectly.

Its important to note though, the crossbow isn’t the best defensive weapon. Crossbows are not as good for defence as rifles and pistols. The main issue is that there is only 1 bolt loaded so if you miss it will take you a minute or so to reload to shoot again.

Having a crossbow and knowing how to hunt with it can save your rifles ammunition. Its best to avoid a scenario where your life might be in danger and you need to use weapons in the first place. Crossbows are also big and heavy and not so easy to transport when a bolt is loaded. They are a lot of fun to own and use for recreational target practice as well. Being able to hunt silently and not attract attention to yourself or your camp in a survival scenario is a huge advantage of the crossbow.

best crossbow for huntinggood cheap crossbow
Pros
: Very accurate. Compact and light. Versa-draw cocking system.

Cons: Pricey. Branded arrows.

The Ravin R15 is a super fast crossbow able to fire bolts at a blazing 425 FPS (feet per second). It fires bolts with an astounding best of the best 160 ft.lbs of kinetic energy. At 6.9 lbs it is easy to carry and use. Its weight and ease of cocking make it one of theist crossbows available. The R15 comes with a versa-draw cocking handle which allows you to to safely crank the crossbow with one hand easily. The Ravin R15 employs a frictionless flight system which allow the arrow and string to float above the rail which increases the life span of the cable. The HeliCoil technology on the R15 guarantees the best accuracy. The scope has green and red illumination which you can turn on using a dial. This is great for low-light shooting . Although its pricey and you can only use branded arrows the Ravin R15 is one of the best crossbows you can buy. For this reason its our #1 Winner.

 #2 WINNER
TenPoint Carbon Nitro

fastest crossbowbest crossbow

Pros: Reverse-draw design. Powerful and fast. Quiet.

Cons: Pricey.

The TenPoint Carbon Nitro is a brilliant crossbow. It has a reverse-draw design which allows for a more compact shape and plenty of speed and power as well as reduced vibration. It can shoot with a velocity of 385 FPS (Feet per second). It has 125 ft lbs. of kinetic energy. To offset the added weight of the reverse-draw design TenPoint used carbon fibre for the stock and barrel. At 7.8 lbs the Carbon Nitro is maneuverable and light and feels really balanced. We recommend that you add the ACUDraw system when you purchase it which is a few hundred dollars more because it allows you to cock the crossbow using a hand crank similar to the system on the Ravin R15. The RangeMaster Pro scope is included. The An impressive crossbow overall! This is our pick for #2 Winner because its not as fast as the Ravin R15.

#3 WINNER
Barnett Predator 2018 New Model

best crossbows for the moneyrecurve crossbow

Pros: Comfortable and safe design. Lots of power and speed. Quiet. Ships mostly assembled.

Cons: Not as lightweight as the Ravin R15.

The Barnett Predator is Barnett’s newest and most bad ass crossbow. It is their flagship model and the fastest most powerful crossbow they have ever made. It has whopping power with a speed of 430 FPS. This is the fastest crossbow out there and is a new addition for 2018.  It can generate blazing fast arrow speeds of up to 430 FPS. It’s fairly lightweight and maneuverable coming it at 7.6 lbs. On the downside, the Ravin R15 is much lighter than this crossbow and almost has the same speed but packs more kinetic energy. Though it is significantly more expensive. If you don’t mind the added weight, the Barnett Predator gives you almost the same amount of power for much less money. The great thing about Barnett is that they actually invented the modern day crossbow design. You can expect great quality from them. The crossbow comes with an illuminated scope.  We were really impressed with the accuracy and power of this crossbow. The bolts are fired with a whopping 156 ft. lbs of energy and can drive deep into the target. Its our pick for #3 Winner because its not as lightweight as the #1 Winner and is slightly less powerful as well. Don’t confuse this model with their earlier Barnett Predator crossbows that are older and less powerful. For the price this is basically the best crossbow available. A great buy!

Barnett Ghost 420 Revenant

cross bowshunting crossbow

Pros:  Carbonlite riser. Balanced toward the shooter. Fast and powerful.

Cons: Only comes with two arrows.

The Barnett Ghost 420 is our #1 Winner for Best Value because it fires bolts at an amazing 420 FPS and with a kinetic force of 149 ft. lbs. This amount of power for the price is unbeatable.  Its nearly as powerful as crossbows that cost twice the amount like the Ravin R15. At 7.6 lbs the Ghost 420 is light and compact. This is Barnett’s fastest bow. It comes with a 1.5x- 5x 32 mm illuminated (green or red) scope. We really like Barnett’s patented riser design which removes almost half the weight from the crossbows front and sends the balance back closer to the shooter. Cocking isn’t very difficult with the included cocking rope. This crossbow offers the best bang for your buck by far!

#2 WINNER
TenPoint Turbo GT

best crossbows on the marketcross bow

Pros: Compact design. Easy to cock.

Cons: Not as quiet as other crossbows (doesn’t include a dampener or string suppressors).

The TenPoint Turbo GT is a great award winning cross bow.  It can fire at 360 feet per second with 109 ft. lbs. of kinetic energy. At 6.5 lbs its lightweight and compact and easy to carry. The Turbo GT comes with a 3X Multi-line scope.  For an extra $100 you can order it with the ACUdraw 50 system and for $200 extra with the ACUdraw hand crank cocking system. The ACUdraw 50 system makes cocking much easier and the ropes retract inside the housing after cocking. Its our #2 Winner because its less powerful than the Barnett Ghost 420 Revenant. We like that the Turbo GT has a dry fire inhibitor so it cannot accidentally fire without a bolt in place. A great buy overall!

#3 WINNER
TenPoint Wicked Ridge Invader

best crossbow 2017cheap crossbows

Pros: Safe. Magnesium riser lowers overall weight. Super lightweight.

Cons: Included scope doesn’t have illumination. No integrated noise suppression (you can add one though)

The TenPoint Wicked Ridge Invader is a great crossbow for the price. You can buy it with the ACUdraw cocking mechanism which is a self-retracting rope that reduces the draw eight by half.  If you don’t order the extra ACUdraw it comes with the ACU52 cocking mechanism which is a rope cocking aid. The Invader comes with a Multi-Line Scope. The amazing thing about this crossbow is how light it is, it weighs just 6.6 lbs. It can fire up to 322 FPS with up to 96.7 ft. lbs. of kinetic force. This is a great buy- it gets the job done without setting you back thousands of dollars. Its our #3 Winner because its less powerful than the top two winners and doesn’t have an illuminated scope.

Barnett Recruit Compound Tactical

best crossbow for hunting

Pros: Good quality and price. Lightweight and compact. Accurate.

Cons: Only includes two bolts. Doesn’t include sling or case.

The Barnett Recruit is a great crossbow for beginners. Its very compact and is designed for youth and small frame shooters. It features a good build quality and is very affordable. At 6.5 lbs its very lightweight and easy to carry. With a speed of 300 FPS and about 85 ft. lbs of kinetic energy it doesn’t directly compete with the more expensive and powerful crossbows.  Its still has enough power to get the job done although at a reduced effective distance.  As an added bonus the crossbow ships with a red dot site. Its easy to cock with the included rope cocking mechanism. You can also buy a hand crank cocking mechanism seperately. So if you’re a beginner or just want to have a crossbow for emergencies and want to save money this is the crossbow for you. Keep in mind that because this is a compact crossbow if you have a large frame you might need a stock extension. This is our #1 Winner because you get a lot for the price and its lightweight and compact.

#2 WINNER
CenterPoint Sniper 370

crossbow huntingcross bow

Pros: Very affordable. Good speed and power. Adjustable tactical style stock.

Cons: Not the best scope quality. No pass-through fore grip.

This is a great entry level crossbow. It is simple but really does the job and has excellent accuracy. It has an anti-dry fire safety mechanism and is well balanced.  It has excellent speed at 370 FPS with good power (110 ft.lbs of kinetic energy). It comes in at 7.7 lbs which is a reasonable weight. Since it doesn’t have a pass-through fore grip its important to be careful not to grip it incorrectly. The Sniper 370 comes with an included cocking device. For the price, this crossbow gives you many of the features and power of much more expensive crossbows. Its a great option to add to your prepper gear without breaking the bank. Its our pick for #2 Winner because the fore grip is not pass-through.

#3 WINNER
Barnett Jackal

crossbowscrossbows for sale

Pros: Great price and value. Sufficient stopping power. Comfortable.

Cons: Doesn’t include rope-cocking device.

The Barnett Jackal is a very capable weapon for the price. Its easy to add this to your prepper kit and not have to worry about the cost. It shoots with good power up to 320 FPS with 95 ft.lbs of kinetic energy. This is enough power to get the job done. Its our #3 Winner because it doesn’t come with a rope-cocking device. It weights 7.7 lbs. It comes with a red-dot sight and three 20″ arrows. We recommend that you buy a rope cocker to make it easier to cock. It has an anti-dry firing mechanism. The Barnett Jackal is economical and effective- no-wonder its a best seller. A fantastic buy!

FINAL THOUGHTS

Having a crossbow in your prepper gear is a smart idea. You can use it for hunting or self-defence. It may not be the best self-defense weapon but it still might come in handy. A great advantage to the crossbow is that they are almost silent compared to guns. There are many budget friendly crossbows and they are fairly easy to use. They are also super fun to shoot so you can practice a lot and learn how to get the perfect shot.
