🥇Best Walkie Talkies and other Two-Way Radios – We Found the best deals online

walkie talkie
Being able to communicate in any emergency or disaster scenario is of utmost importance. Walkie talkies and other Two-Way radios are an excellent way to accomplish this task.

I’ve found Walkie talkies at three different price points. I’ve also chosen two excellent Marine Two-Way radios. One is handheld and the other one is a fixed radio. Finally, I’ve also selected a best of the best, best value, and best on a budget selection for the CB (Citizens Band) Radio category. You can Jump straight to each segment:

Whether you’re in a small group or a large group Two-Way radios are a great way to stay in touch and to maintain security and safety. They also work well for scenarios where you need to receive NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) weather alerts.

If you are on a boat you can also use Marine Two-Way Radios to stay in touch with other boats and Coast Guard stations. You can find relevant VHF Channel information here: United States Coast Guard: Navigation Cent- VHF Channel information.

There are also many other applications for Two-Way radios. You can use them while camping and in other recreational activities. You can also use them at your venue or workplace. I’ve included a selection which gives you a lot of walkie talkies at a great price. But, keep in mind often times the cheaper the radio the less clear it is, and the less range it can cover. Also, most of the Walkie Talkies maximum range is not what they say it is. They can only get that range in very unrealistic stains like mountain top to mountain top. So, don’t expect 30-mile range for most of the Walkie Talkies.

When cell communication is disrupted, Two-Way radios come in really handy.  I recommend to all of my readers that you also grab a dynamo/manually rechargeable emergency radio so that no matter what happens to your cell reception or if you run out of power you can still get updates about the emergency. Have a look at my report here on Best Emergency Radios.

Whats the difference between Walkie Talkies, Two Way Radios, Marine Radios and CB Radios?

Great question. This should clear it up for you.

Walkie Talkies:

Walkie Talkies are Two-Way radios used in closed scenarios.  In other words, you broadcast and receive messages from another person on a shared channel that you chose before. They have a set number of channels with programs built in to filter out noice and to offer privacy. Walkie talkies usually have codes so that only the two (or more than two radios) can pair with each other. They are usually used for shorter distances but some of the better ones have an amazing range.

Marine Two-Way Radios

Marine Two-Way radios are usually waterproof and designed for use on water craft. They use the VHF radio frequencies (High frequencies) and are not used for any other purpose. They also generally have the ability to receive NOAA emergency weather alerts so you can always be prepared when you’re on the water. You can also use them to communicate with the Coast Guard and other boats. This is very important in emergencies.

CB Radios:

CB Radios allow you to use a specific portion of the radio bandwidth that is allotted for public use. They are generally mounted in cars, trucks, and in homes or offices. They have excellent range and also can receive NOAA emergency alerts.

I hope you liked my report and found the best Two-Way radio for you.

Motorola MR350R 35-Mile Range 22-Channel FRS/GMRS Two-Way Radio (Pair)

Range: 35 /6/ 2 Miles

Channels:  22

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes

Pros: High powered. Includes emergency alerts. Durable. 121 Privacy codes.

Cons: Pricey. Batteries could last longer. Not the easiest to program.  Not waterproof.

The Motorola MR350R is a high-powered premium quality Walkie Talkie. I really like that it can receive 11 weather channels and emergency alerts. It can broadcast very clearly. The build quality is second to none. It can withstand difficult conditions and is sure to last a very long time. If you’re looking for a sturdy high quality radio this is the one for you. It takes my #1 Winner position because of the build quality and signal strength. It also includes a built-in LED flashlight. Keep in mind that in most practical situations the range will be on the lower side of the spectrum. It also has a handsfree option.

 #2 WINNER
Motorola MT350R FRS Weatherproof Two-Way – 35 Mile Radio Pack – Orange

Range: 35 /6/2 Miles

Channels:  22

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes

Pros: Weatherproof (IP54). Good signal strength. Durable. 121 Privacy codes.

Cons: No hands-free option. Pricey

The MT350 FRS is a very similar radio to the #1 Winner. The main difference is that this one is weatherproof. If you plan to use the radios in extreme weather this is a better choice. It lacks the hands-free option and that’s why it takes my #2 Spot. But really, they are interchangeable in terms of build quality and sound quality for the most part. The range is similar as well and they both receive NOAA alerts. So, its up to you. If you prefer the handsfree option and aren’t worried about weatherproofing then go for the #1 Winner.

BaoFeng BF-888S Two-Way Radios (6 Pack)

Range: 3.5 Miles

Channels: 16

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: No

Pros: Great value. Pre-programmed to same frequency. Easy to use. Has flashlight.

Cons: Not the best range. Not suited for all situations. No weather alerts.

The BaoFeng BF-888S Walkie talkies are a great value purchase. They are perfect for large groups or families that need to keep in touch in an emergency or in a recreational setting. They are also great for offices and business. They aren’t designed for heavy duty outdoor use and aren’t weatherproof. They take my number 1 spot because they get the job done in many situations and are very affordable.

#2 WINNER
Midland GXT1000VP4 50 Channel GMRS Two-Way Radios- 3 Pack

Range: 36 Miles

Channels: 50

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes

Pros: Lots of channels. Includes NOAA alerts. Better for longer range (high sensitivity). Waterproof.

Cons: Controls can be a bit confusing. A bit pricey.

The Midland GXT1000VP4 are an excellent longer-range walkie talkie choice. Keep in mind that its unlikely that in practical situations that you’ll get the 36-mile range. I like that they are waterproof and have so many channels. Another great plus is that they include NOAA weather alerts. They also come with 142 Privacy codes per channel. I almost want this to be my number one choice for best value since they are so good. The only reason I have them listed as #2 is because they are pricey especially if you need more than 3 walkie talkies. Over all the quality of these are superior to my number 1 winner so its really up to what your specific needs are. If you have the money to spend I would recommend you purchase 6 of these instead of the #1 Winner. But, if you just want to get a simple working system and don’t need the other functions go with the #1 Winner for Best Value.

Motorola T200TP Talkabout Radio, 3 Pack

Range: 20 Miles

Channels: 22

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: No

Pros: Very Affordable. Has scanning feature. Good sensitivity.

Cons: Speaker could be louder. Battery life could be better.

The Motorola T200TP walkie talkies are a great value. They’re perfectly suited for family use in recreational and emergencies. Keep in mind the effective range in most normal situation is nowhere near 20 miles. That’s only really mountain top to mountain top. Some people have complained about battery life so make sure you have spare batteries or access to a charger/generator. Overall, they get the job done and for this price they are excellent. Thats why they are my #1 Pick for Best on a Budget.

Also, if you only need 2 they come in a two pack as well:

#2 WINNER
Midland X-Talker 36 Channel NOAA Weather Scan Walkie Talkie

Range: 38 Miles

Channels: 36

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes

Pros: Good range/strong signal. NOAA Weather alerts. Handsfree mode.

Cons: Pricey. Range still isn’t as good as 36 miles for most situations.

The Midland X-Talker Walkie Talkies offer a lot of features for a very good price. Although you only get two in this pack they include a radio that can receive NOAA weather alters and can be used handsfree. They have a generous 36 channels with plenty of privacy codes (121) per channel. The range is quite good but no where near the maximum range that the manufacturers suggests. They are good allaround Walkie Talkies and will get the job done. If you need 3 units or sets of 3 you might want to take a look at my #2 Winner for Best Value: The Midland GXT1000VP4. The Midland X-Talker Walkie Talkies are my #2 pick for Best on a Budget because they are more expensive.

HANDHELD PICK
Uniden MHS75 Waterproof Marine 2-Way Radio

Range: 3-8 Miles (can be extended by connecting to fixed boat antenna)

Channels: All USA, Canadian, International Marine channels

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes, All NOAA Channels built-in including alerts.

Pros: Excellent build quality (die-cast aluminum housing). Waterproof. Easy to use. Affordable.

Cons: Doesn’t float. Battery life isn’t great.

The Uniden MHS75 is an excellent handheld marine two-way radio. Its waterproof /submersible (IPX8/JIS8). The battery has up to 12 hours but realistically when using it doesn’t last that long. Thats the main complaint I have about it. You can add up to 100 favourite locations to the device and it receives NOAA weather channel emergency alerts which is very important. The range of this device isn’t as good as a fixed Marine Radio. Its maximum output is 5 Watts. So, keep that in mind when you’re out on the water. Adding a longer fixed boat antenna can boost the signal. This is a great buy overall.

FIXED MOUNT PICK
Uniden UM380 25-Watt Fixed Mount Marine VHF Radio

Range: 15-20 Miles (can be extended by using a taller antenna)

Channels: All USA, Canadian, International Marine channels

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes, All NOAA Channels built-in including alerts.

Pros: Affordable. Compact. Waterproof. Triple and dual watch.

Cons: Some complaints about quality.

The Uniden UM380 is a good all around fixed Marine radio. It has a lot of power (25 watts) and solid range. It is waterproof and compact. Its easy to mount because it doesn’t take up much space. On the downside some people have complained about the quality. Make a note of the warranty so you can return it if it stops working. Overall, the majority of people really like this radio (4.2 out of 5 Stars). I like how affordable it is. It gets the job done. It also has a distress button and can transmit location (position send and request). A great buy overall!

Cobra 29LX MAX Smart CB Radio

Bluetooth: Yes

Includes NOAA Weather Channels:  Yes, 10 Channels with Alerts (even if radio is off)

Rewind/Say Again: Yes

Pros: Clear signal. Good power output. Easy to read. Bluetooth works with iRADAR App

Cons: Fairly large unit. Need to buy antenna seperately. Pricey.

The Cobra 29LX MAX is a great feature packed smart CB Radio. It has bluetooth so you can connect it to your smartphone for hands-free calling in the car. It also features “Rewind-Say-Again” so you can replay the last 10 second of a missed VHF message/call. It can receive emergency alerts from the NOAA weather channels and can even turn itself on when there is an emergency broadcast. I like the dials and the illumination of the front panel. Another great feature is the iRADAR app which allows you to receive live police alerts. On the downside, its not cheap. Also, its not a small unit so if you are planning on mounting it in a small car it might not fit. Its my pick for #1 winner because its feature packed.

BEST VALUE
Uniden Bearcat 880 CB Radio

Bluetooth: No

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: Yes with Alert.

Rewind/Say Again: No

Pros: 7-color backlighting. Noice cancellation. NOAA weather alerts. Compact

Cons: Internal speaker isn’t the best when turned to maximum volume. Screen can scratch easily.

The Uniden Bearcat 880 is one of the best CB radios you can get for the price. It has good range performance and is easy to use.  You can change the colour of the screen to one of seven different colours. The screen is easy to use and the unit is very compact so its great for small spaces in cars. On the downside, at maximum volume the speaker isn’t very clear. Also, the screen isn’t scratch proof so you’ll need to be careful with it or buy a screen protector. This is a great value CB Radio.

BEST ON A BUDGET
Uniden PRO505XL CB Radio

Bluetooth: No

Includes NOAA Weather Channels: No

Rwind/Say Again: No

Pros: Compact. Easy to use. Inexpensive.

Cons: Stock mic quality isn’t the best. No NOAA Weather alert functionality.

The Uniden PRO505XL is a great entry level CB radio. Its compact and easy to mount in small spaces. Its simple but gets the job done. Its very inexpensive. It can be configured to work with an external speaker PA system. It can receive 40 CB channels and works great in a car or home. Keep in mind that the antenna is extra. On the downside, the quality of the mic isn’t great but you can upgrade to a better one. This is a popular budget CB Radio. It’ll get the job done.

FINAL THOUGHTS

There are some great options for staying safe and maintaining communication in a variety of emergency and recreational scenarios. Not relying on the cell network for all your communication is a smart idea. Two-way radios offer peace of mind at a relatively low cost. I hope you found the perfect radio for you.
