When it comes to prepping first aid kits are an absolute necessity. In any type of emergency, you need to be able to treat wounds on your own quickly especially if you aren’t able to get to a hospital or have an ambulance reach you right away. First aid kits are essential for everyday life as well. If you are camping, hiking, or out in the field its best to have one with you. If you’re hunkering down its best to have a proper first aid cabinet in your home.
I’ve found great highly rated first aid kits in four formats to suit each scenario. You can Jump straight to each segment:
I divided the kits into different categories. First aid backpacks are useful for camping, bugging out, and for backcountry scenarios. I have chosen high quality military/EMS style first aid kits for more serious injuries as well as normal injuries like cuts, sprains, burns. The first aid cabinets are an essential for home or work and they come jam packed with everything you’ll need. I added the compact first aid cabinets if you have to travel very light and can’t take a first aid backpack. These ones can be put into other bags or attached to a backpack. And finally, I added budget first aid kits if you want to have some coverage but don’t want to spend too much. You can buy multiple budget first aid kits and place them in different locations like: your car, house, workplace, cottage, boat, etc.
Its also essential to know basic first and CPR. You can take a course and also teach yourself at home with online courses like this one from the American Red Cross. There are a lot of videos on youtube as well like this:
Its also a good idea to add adult and infant CPR masks to your kit if it doesn’t already have it built in:
There are also a lot of first aid apps that you can get to have on your phone that can help you with first aid and CPR like this one from the American Red Cross:
I hope you find this report to be useful. I know I feel safer and more secure when I have first aid supplies with me. Its also good to know that you can help a family member or friend in a time of need.
FIRST AID KIT BACKPACKS
BEST FIRST AID BACKPACKS TOP PICK First Aid by Renegade Survival RUNNER UP Lightening X First Responder
BEST FIRST AID
First Aid by Renegade Survival
Lightening X First Responder
The Renegade Survival first aid backpack is my top pick. Its designed for serious prepping and has contents that come close to what some EMS/ EMT’s and combat medics use. This is a great backpack if you have some first aid and medic knowledge. It comes with over 300 items. It can be used as a backpack and also can be carried with the handle. Its cleverly designed to fold out for easy access to all the equipment. This is a durable military G.I style bag that is sure to handle tough situations. The great thing about this first aid backpack is that it includes some equipment for trauma type injuries. It even includes sutures and a stethoscope. On the downside its quite heavy at 18 lbs but that is to be expected for this type of gear.
There is lighter version of this kit made by Renegade Survival that comes in at 2.5 lbs:
If you don’t have much knowledge about treating the kinds of wounds theses kits can treat, they may not be for you. But, on the other hand, it could motivate you to learn more about what medics can do. Another point is that if you have this kit you may know someone or meet someone in an emergency who does know how to use the gear.
The Lighting X is a fantastic EMS/EMT style first aid backpack. Its lightweight at 9 lbs so its easier to carry around. It includes a CPR mask and a stethoscope as well as a blood pressure cuff. I love that it also comes with a first aid guide booklet. It takes my runner up position because it has less gear in it than the top pick. Also, the reflective super bright colour may attract too much attention. There is a blue one as well as an option but it also has reflective trim on it. The Lightening X has all of the basic first aid gear you’ll need as well as more serious trauma and medic gear. So if you’re not someone who knows how to use it this may not be for you. I still think its good to have for the reason I mentioned before. You can learn more advanced medic skills and you might meet someone in the emergency scenario who knows how to use the gear. A great buy overall!
FIRST AID CABINETS
BEST FIRST AID
Rapid Care Four Shelf Cabinet
Medique Products Four Shelf Cabinet
The Rapid Care First Aid four shelf cabinet is an excellent first aid kit that you can mount in your home or office. It contains over 1322 pieces in a moisture resistant wall mountable steel case. It also has a latch and handle so you can transport it if need be. This kit is not designed for heavy duty trauma type conditions like the backpacks are. On the downside, it doesn’t include a CPR mask, so you should buy that separately. I really like that this kit comes with pain relief medication as well as a booklet guide for CPR, AED, and First Aid. Some people have complained that the left door pouches are hard to access.
The Medique first aid cabinet is another excellent choice for first aid wall mountable cabinets. Its a solid build and also includes a handle and latches if you want to transport it. It includes many types of bandages for every situation and is a durable heavy duty steel design. Like the top pick it also doesn’t have a CPR Mask. It takes my runner up position because its slightly more expensive than the top pick. On the other hand you may prefer the layout of this kit. The left door pouches are well organized and easily accessible. Some people have said they prefer this kit for that reason.

Survival Work/Home First Aid Kit
This is a fantastic compact first aid kit. It comes loaded with with features. Its well made and intuitive. It folds out when you open it . The kit is water resistant and durable with double stitched handles and strong zips. It includes medications, puffers, and other great gear. What I really like is that they designed this kit to reduce stress levels during an emergency. The kit educates the user and every item is clearly marked. You don’t have to waste time trying to find stuff. Each component is colour coded: Red items are for Trauma. Blue items are for hygiene, Green is for information and Black is for Utilities (like scissors). Weighing in at 3.3 llbs its easy to transport. It also includes a CPR card/guide and mask as well as a first aid booklet. Its easy to see why this is my top pick for compact first aid kits. On the downside its not designed for medic/EMT/Combat Medic type applications like the first aid backpacks are.
Adventure Medical Kits
The Adventure Medical Kit Grizzly edition is a great affordable first aid kit. Its super light weight coming in at 2.4 lbs. It includes a CPR face mask as well as common medications and tools. Its designed for hunters and fisherman and is well suited to camping and outdoor scenarios. What I really like is that it induces a $16 field guide that can help you through an emergency. It takes my runner up spot because its not as well organized as the top pick- it doesn’t have colour coded components. Overall, this is still a great affordable kit that is easy to transport.
BUDGET FIRST AID KITS
BEST BUDGET FIRST AID KITS TOP PICK Everlit Survival First Aid Kit RUNNER UP Aootek First Aid Survival Kit
Everlit Survival First Aid Kit
Aootek First Aid Survival Kit
Everlit Survival First Aid Kit
The Everlit Survival First Aid Kit is a great affordable and portable kit. It includes gear for minor trauma and is well suited to camping, boating, and hiking scenarios. It comes with 250 pieces. Whats great about this kit other than its price, is that it includes 9 survival components that aren’t commonly found in other first aid kits. The are: Tactical flashlight, flint stone, knife, saver card, glow sticks, a poncho and more. So this kit is more of a hybrid between a first aid kit and bug out bag. I really like how light it is, it was 1.9 lbs. I also really like the military style bag that you can attach to your larger backpack. It is MOLLE (Modular Lightweight Load-carrying Equipment) compatible. Its also been field tested by an Army Sergeant. This first aid kit doesn’t include EMT/EMS level gear. Its a great kit for the price!
Aootek Upgraded First Aid Survival Kit
The Aootek first aid kit contents a powerful combination of components. Like the my top pick it also includes prepping gear thats not commonly found in first aid kits like a flashlight and knife blade. Its so affordable you can have one in your car and cottage and boat. I like how portable and lightweight it is. This is a good all around affordable kit. Keep in mind its not designed for EMS/EMT/Combat Medic type scenarios. It takes my runner up spot because its not that well organized. You have to take out a lot of stuff to get to what you need. Still, this is a great budget first aid it.
In any prepping scenario as well as in normal camping, hiking, fishing scenarios one of the most important things to take with is a first aid kit. Having a kit at home is also essential if your hunkering down or caught off guard by an emergency scenario. I recommend having portable first aid kits as well as wall mounted first aid kits for your home. Its also good to have them in your car. For more serious trauma and emergencies having a combat medic/EMT/EMS style first aid backpack can be useful even if don’t know how to use all of the gear. A friend or someone you meet in the emergency scenario might be trained in the use of that gear. Also you can take courses and certify as a first responder/EMR (Emergency Medical Responder). Here is an example of one of those courses offered by the American Red Cross. I hope you found my report on first aid kits to be useful.
